Welcome Majestics!

Welcome Students/Families,

I am so happy that you are a part of my life for this 2023/2024 school year. I wanted to provide you with a brief bio about me as we get to know each other this year.

First of all, this is my 21st year at Sierra Vista as I started teaching here in 2002. I can truly call Sierra Vista my home as I started my teaching career here teaching 8th grade U.S. history. I have a bachelor’s degree in History, a single-subject CLAD credential in Social Studies and a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Curriculum. I have previously been the department chair of the history department and have headed the Professional Development team here at Sierra Vista among many other leadership roles over the years. I work with a team of energetic and creative history and team teachers and that is what makes my job so much fun. I am currently the team leader for the Majestics Team and am really excited about our upcoming year.   As we are transitioning from Summer to a new school year, I promise to make this year meaningful and enjoyable as you learn US History.  Let us all remain optimistic for what this year holds.

On the home front, I have been married for 22 years to a wonderful man named Jose.  Jose is a Sergeant with the Oxnard Police Department. He works hard at what he does to keep our community safe. We have a beautiful 18 year old daughter named Brianna. She just graduated from Saugus High School and during her time she had played club soccer for FFSC out here in Santa Clarita for many years. She was captain of her high school soccer team in her Freshman Year and won Defensive Player of the Year. She has been playing soccer since she was 5. She is excited to start her college experience at Boise State in Idaho this Fall. Brianna is kind, funny and is extremely loving especially to her younger sister. Vivianna is my youngest daughter and is 8 years old and will be entering third grade this year. She is full of energy and loves to read, sing and dance. She will be a star! Vivianna was recently in the Escape theatres performance of Shrek and this year she will be dancing and competing on two show teams for her dance school New World Dance . I also have fur baby named Tucker who is super shy but so sweet. As you can tell my family is truly my heartbeat.

In my spare time, I love traveling to places I have never been. I have been involved with the D.C. Club here at Sierra Vista and have served as the Washington D.C. Coordinator. I have taken about 50 students each year to places such as D.C, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Jamestown, Williamsburg and New York City.  I no longer coordinate the trip but my colleague Ms. Kontis has taken the torch and several summers ago I chaperoned the trip and was lucky to have my oldest daughter attend and look forward to accompanying my youngest when it is her turn. It's such a fun trip that I recommend every 8th grader experience if you can. I will be encouraging as many of my students to sign up with the school to attend the trip in June on a truly memorable historic trip. I enjoy cooking, reading and decorating (especially during the holidays) in my spare time. I also enjoy music. Some of my favorite artists include: Mariah Carey, Sade, and Kenny G, to name a few. But, I also like a variety of music and students are always keeping me current letting me in on who is popular right now .  I also enjoy going to the movies and watching the classic “Black and White” movies at home. My all time favorite actresses are Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. I love all types of movies but I especially enjoy comedies.

Well, that was all about me for now, I’m sure you’ll learn more about me as the year goes on. I can’t wait to learn more about you this year. You have joined my family for the 2023-2024 school year and I as I have previously stated, my family is my heartbeat. That means you will become part of my heartbeat this year and for eternity. We are going to have an awesome year. I'm honored to have the privilege of being your history teacher this year.
See you in class!
