Majestics US History 2020/2021-Period 3 Assignments

Hey Majestics! We made it to our final day in history. I want to know how you felt this year and things you learned from this unprecedented year. If you fill out this reflection and turn it in by the end of the day today I will give you some extra credit points.

You're final assignment of the year will help you explore through the Civil War and make connections with the people, battles and circumstances of the war.

Complete the video guide as we watch in class. You have already been introduced to many of the main ideas from our previous lesson on Compromises to Conflict. It is always a good idea to go back and review over the class notes to get a full understanding of the events in today's video. Turn in the video notes by the due date in order to receive full credit.

You have been assigned at the beginning of the year to complete one act of either community or civic service. Upon your completion, your last step is to reveal what you did this year. You can choose to write your response, create a google slide presentation, create a flipgrid or video presentation, a song/poem, the choice of format is up to you but you will need to look at the community service question requirement instructions attached below so you know what your response or presentation should include. You may turn in this project at any time before and up to the due date. You will be receiving a service certificate this year signed by me and Dr. Hoffman as recognition of your service in addition to a grade. We will be using our WorkDay Wednesday's starting April 28 as an option for those of you to have the time to work to complete this project. You will attach your completed project in this assignment. Don't hesitate to ask questions or for guidance if you need it.

You will work in a preassigned breakout group for 15 minutes in class in order to fill in your groups assigned Abolitionist.  Be prepared to pick a spokesperson to share out your information to the rest of the class.

We will be learning about Slavery in America from its earliest roots to how slaves on a Plantation in the South lived. Reform was beginning to strengthen and those who fought to end slavery, Abolitionists were strengthening their message throughout the United States. You will be following along with the LIfe as a Slave in the South notes as today's topic is presented by me in class.  You will need to open the notes in Kami so you can edit in them if you are working on this online. Students who are attending in person will have the option to take the notes on paper in class with the worksheet provided to you.

Follow the instructions given in class and on the interactive painting assignment linked here on google classroom. Then complete the Manifest Destiny: American Progress Painting Analysis. A copy has been made for you. When done turn in for credit by the due date.

Click on the school climate survey in the home category of this link to take the district survey. Then mark this assignment as done when you are finished.

We will watch the Video on Texas in class on day 1, then you will use the digital history resource and the video we watched to complete the Day 1 Notes  in the Assignment: Texas/Mexico Notes posted below in google docs. A copy has been made for you to write on. Day 2 we will learn about the Mexican American war and take notes in the the Day 2 Notes section of the assignment. When you are all done with the assignment you will turn it in at the end of the week.

You are going to be assigned to a Break Out group. Once you join, establish who will make a copy of the Andrew Jackson Webquest. Then break down who will be assigned each of the questions. Then you will work on your portion, following the hyperlinks in the assignment in order to answer the questions accurately and thoughtfully. Your group must then work together to answer the last question together. Your group will get extra points for a detailed and thoughtful response that includes citations. Then have someone in the group in charge of turning your completed assignment in by the due date. Be prepared to share your answers with each other and the class.

Today, we are going to watch a video on the Industrial Revolution. You will take notes from the teacher on your own assignment form linked below. Then you will watch a wrap up video about the Industrial Revolution called Turning Points in History. Take note of the following when you watch the video: 1. What effect did the industrial need for labor have on women and children? 2. What reform movement began as a result of the work environment?
If you want extra credit, draw an original picture of one of the inventions from the assignment or another one from the Industrial Revolution and either take a picture and upload it or if you are in class instruction turn it in to me. I am going to make an Industrialization Wall with all your creative artwork in the classroom.

You will be following along with the Hyperdoc slides in class and answering essential questions presented in slides (6, 7, 8, 21, 22, and 23) for credit.

Follow the links that are embedded into this assignment in order to complete each set of questions in each part. This should be a fun and informative way to learn about the War of 1812. We will be working on this in class.

Follow along with the discussion in class on how Thomas Jefferson was responsible for doubling the size of the United States. You will need to be taking notes during the class discussion in order to complete each of the four note boxes on each page. We will then be watching a video on the two men that were chosen to lead an expedition into the Louisiana Territory for the United States.

We are going to watch this video as a class. Then you will need to split screen and open up this video on and the assignment sheet on your own computer so that you can capture the notes from watching the video a second time to complete the worksheet.

Open the linked document with Kami so you can read through and answer the 4 questions that follows Jefferson's Inaugural Address.

Today's lesson will further explore in depth the differences between Hamilton and Jefferson specifically over the National Bank. The objective is: To what extent does Hamilton the musical accurately depict the debate between Hamilton and Jefferson over the National Bank of the United States?
We will listen to the song: Cabinet Battle #1 as a class, then you will be asked to listen to it again and complete the 5 analysis questions. Then you will read Corroboration 2 Excerpts to analyze. I will do a group read in class for those that would like to have the Excerpts read and broken down in class. Otherwise, you will have the option to read and complete independently. The second part is an evaluation of primary/secondary sources and analysis questions to answer based on the reading of those sources. Since this assignment is building critical thinking and analysis skills, it will not be due until next Friday. I am available to help during MAP times if you need additional help outside class time.

Watch the BrainPop video (Login is=svhsd and the password is sv), Read the political cartoon and fill in the information to help you have a better understanding on the birth of Political Parties. Open the reading notes with Kami so you can edit in the document.

You will be assigned to a breakout room for this activity. (Periods 4, 5, 6 today and Periods 2, 3 on Monday February 1)You will be assigned once you are in your breakout room to either Station Assignment 1, 2, 3 or 4. Your job will be to read through the station topic information, complete the analysis questions and then share out with your group so that each person in your group has the information to turn in by the due date. I will be popping in and out of each break out room as you work to check on your progress and to answer any questions you have. You are responsible for completing and sharing your assigned station task.

Watch the following video again after we have watched it in class and read over the two articles to help you fill out your assignment questions for today. You will also need to refer to dictionary.com to define a few terms.
After you have answered all the questions turn in for credit. This is due on Thursday January 21.

Follow the instructions outlined and discussed in class in order to create a goal in Q3 that you can achieve.

Complete the attached enrichment assignment to learn more about the U.S. Supreme Court. This is an extra credit assignment so this is optional. If you turn this in, you will earn extra credit towards your Q2 grade. You will need to use library resources to research the information needed to fill in the chart.

Today in class you will learn the structure of the Constitution starting with the Preamble and it's 6 goals. You will then learn about the three branches of government-Legislative, Executive and Judicial and the importance of each branch and how they share equal power. Your assignment will be a short writing assignment answering one question about the Constitution in a Choice Writing Assignment.

In class today we are going to take a look into the first 10 amendments to the Constitution known as the Bill of Rights. We will identify our five freedoms in amendment 1 and why they are important to citizens. You will watch a Brain Pop video (svhsd is the log in and sv is the password) to help you understand the importance of the first 10 amendments and then you will showcase your knowledge of the Bill of Rights in the Bill of Rights Notes assignment.

Make sure to fill out today's attendance form in order to get marked present in history class for today December 2. Continue to work on the Bill of Rights assignment that is due on Friday.
***Please also note that tomorrow there may be a possibility of electricity turn offs due to the projected high winds coming into the Santa Clarita Valley. If your power does go off tomorrow preventing you from attending class, make sure to have your parent call the attendance office and notify me of your absence if possible. Plan to use your history textbook and read through the Citizenship Handbook on pages 125-145. This will give you the background you may miss from class if the power does go out.***

We will be watching this video in class today after reviewing over the Federalist and Anti-Federalist assignment. Complete the video guide notes and turn in for extra credit. Some students will be required to work on missing assignments in a break out room so if you would like to still watch the video later you will need to google search "This is America Charlie Brown: Birth of the Constitution".

In class today we will read the Newsela article about the Anti-Federalist view. Then we will review over the Federalists vs Anti-Federalist activity and you will identify from the statements, the view each group had on the Constitution and role of government. Lastly, you will be adding your own opinion about whether adding a Bill of Rights was necessary in the decision to ratify the Constitution.

We will be reading through the Founding Fathers at Work Cartoon in class. I have included the full PDF and then each color page for easier reading. You will branch out into break out room groups to get the analysis questions completed.

You will be using the website link below to navigate through the 2020 Election Scavenger Hunt Assignment. When complete, turn in for credit.
You will be participating in a student mock election on Election Day November 3. This assignment will get you ready to be an informed voter.
We will start class by watching the Presidential Election Brain Pop as an introduction.

The Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States, on November 15, 1777. However, ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states did not occur until March 1, 1781. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. The need for a stronger Federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The present United States Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation on March 4, 1789.
You will be learning more in depth about the Articles, its' weaknesses and how it led to a Constitutional Convention. You will work in breakout groups and presenting your own Articles.
Lastly, we will overview our learning by watching a Brain Pop video (Login in: svhsd, Password: sv) and seeing how this transitions into inviting state delegates to a Constitutional Convention.

Click on the link below to make a Flipgrid for your group in which you record your own Articles of Confederation in part 2 of our Articles assignment. You can also choose to present your articles live during class. If you choose to do a Flipgrid make sure you post it by the due date in order to get credit for your group. Add your class period and group number to the Flipgrid. You should have picked a spokesperson who will be in charge of this presentation.
All students will then view over the posted Flip grids and like and/or leave positive feedback for the group.

After filling out this survey, turn this in here in google classroom as you will get points in Infinite Campus for completing this form.

There will be no live meet today. Today's assignment will be to complete a climate survey linked below during this period. Your attendance is tied to this survey so make sure you click "Mark as Done" or you will be marked absent. You will finish out today by continuing to work on your Articles of Confederation Assignment. Whether you are still answering your assigned question or your group has started coming up with your own Articles for part II, you will finish up next class and one person in your group will record to Flipgrid (I will post the link during our next class) or present live in class. You should be collaborating with your group members in your google document through the comments so that you can continue working together effectively. Email me with any questions you have.

Read the article, then answer the analysis questions and turn in for credit. When you have completed and turned in the questions watch the video that is linked below.

We will be reviewing the causes that led to the Declaration of Independence and ultimately the Revolution together in class and sharing out the Bell Ringer questions. You will then need to read over the Introduction to the Declaration of Independence excerpt and answer the analysis questions. Turn the Analysis Questions in for credit once completed.

This is a great extended assignment that gives perspective and diversity to how the Declaration of Independence was viewed at the time it was written and received. Try to do all of them for extra credit towards your first quarter grade.

This project will be introduced in class on Monday September 28. You will be answering one of four essential questions through researching topics and expressing them in one of three templates that you will have a choice to create. Once the assignment is discussed and assigned you will attach your completed project in this assignment. You will additionally be adding this assignment to our class Padlet.
You will also be responsible for checking in by filling out project progress forms, class polls, and may possibly be asked to attend an afternoon Flex Time Zoom in order to work on the project and get help if needed. This is a 100 point project and will affect your quarter grade. Let's work together to improve our historical researching skills while we learn more about the events that caused a Revolution.

We will be exploring how tensions grew between the colonists and England as a result of the French and Indian War.
You will be able to answer the basic question of: Why did the French and Indian War cause tension and conflict and plant the seeds for a Revolution?

Please have your parents read over the class syllabus and on the last page there is a link to fill out that I will be sent as verification. I will post both the syllabus and the linked outline form for you to easily open. Then, make sure to Turn this In so it won't show as missing.
Periods 2 and 3 received an overview in class today. Periods 4, 5, and 6 will receive an overview on Friday.

After we have watched the introductory videos on the Colombian Exchange and the 13 Colonies Regions you will do the following:
Read through the research maps that include information about the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies. You will be using those three Documents along with the completed 13 Colonies Chart to complete the 13 Colony Regions chart in your break out groups. The spokesperson in the group will make a copy of the 13 Colony Regions Chart and share the copy with your group members giving them editing rights. Then each of you will take a roll in helping to complete the chart. For example: One person will be in charge of researching and completing information on the New England Colonies, One person will be in charge of the Middle Colonies and One person will be in charge of the Southern Colonies. Pick one person to be the spokes person who will be in charge of making the copy of the chart, sharing out with the group and then presenting out to the class by sharing your screen and answering teacher questions. That person will also help find information as needed in the time that is allowed in your group to finish the chart.
I have put you in break out groups and I will be entering in and out of the groups to help you and answer questions, just like in the classroom if I assigned you to a group task.
Hints: Make use of the split screen feature while you research and fill in your chart. I have a tutorial posted for you to view in case you need a refresher as we will demonstrate how to do this in class.

Today in class you will get introduced to the history textbook that you will be using in addition to other primary and secondary resources in history class this year. Make sure to have a copy of your history textbook in front of you for this assignment. I will be going over this assignment with you in class and giving you time to navigate through your textbook, answer the questions to help you become more comfortable using your history textbook, and then we will review over the answers. You will turn this assignment in for class credit and a grade will be entered into Infinite Campus this week for the completion and participation of this assignment.

Attached is the template you will use to create your own virtual cubby. When complete turn in to this site. Turning assignments in through classroom is how you will be held accountable and receive a grade in Infinite Campus. I do not grade in google classroom but I do often provide comments/feedback on your assignments when turned in. Keep in mind due dates for assignments as you will be held accountable and turning in assignments late can affect your grade as you will not receive full credit. If you are having a situation that is preventing you from turning in an assignment on time, contact me as soon as you can so we can work on a solution together to keep you on task and up to date. The following assignment will be done during our class session but you will see the due date for this assignment is extended to Friday.
