Flaherty's Autobiography

Mrs. Flaherty was born in Santa Rosa, California, and she lived there until she was about 7 years old, but then she and her family moved to Santa Clarita where they have lived ever since. She went to Canyon Springs Elementary School, Sierra Vista Jr. High School, Canyon High School, College of the Canyons and then California State University of Northridge. She earned her Associates Degree (AA) at COC and her Bachelors Degree (BA) and teaching credential at CSUN. She decided to continue her education and finished a Master's Degree program in Curriculum and Instruction through Concordia University, Irvine online in the spring of 2016.

Mrs. Flaherty held two jobs while going to college; she worked in the Catalog and Credit Department at J.C. Penney and acted as the Store Operator and General Supervisor. Plus, she worked at the College of the Canyons Tutoring, Learning and Computing Lab (TLC Lab) as an English tutor where she helped many students with their essays and English class assignments both in person and online. During her time in the credential program at CSUN, Mrs. Flaherty completed her student teaching assignment at Sierra Vista Jr. High School and also Saugus High School. She was Sierra Vista's Associated Student Body (ASB) Director for about six years, taught 7th Grade Seminar for two years, taught English 8 for 13 years, is currently teaching her second year of English 7 and Achieve as well as her first year of Newcomer English. She is excited to continue on the Professional Development (PD) Team this year as well as her fourth year as Sierra Vista's Site Wellness Liaison. She's also learning to be the English Language Learner (EL) Coordinator this year and will help guide students through the reclassification process.
