Credit and Promotion Information

Credits for Classes and Promotion to High School

Students are enrolled in six classes during each of four quarters.  Each class earns 2.5 credits if a student receives a grade of “D” or better at the quarter. Each quarter a student should earn 15 credits.  A student can earn sixty credits per year and 120 credits in two years.  107.5 minimum credits must be earned for a student to be eligible for participation in eighth grade promotional activities and promote to 9th grade.  A student may make up credits in summer school but during the school year there is no opportunity for credit recovery. It is very important that students focus on passing their classes and earning credits throughout the year.

A report card is issued at the end of each quarter and grades are recorded on their transcript record.  Five weeks into each quarter, teachers complete progress reports to indicate at the midpoint how a student is doing. We recommend that you WRITE THE DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR, so that you can monitor your child’s grades all year. It is recommended to monitor your child's progress on a weekly basis on Infinite Campus if needed.

If a student fail’s 2 or more classes in 7th grade they are highly recommended to attend  summer school to make up for those credits.  In 8th grade, students who do not meet the minimum 107.5 credits by the end of their 8th grade year need to attend summer school and are non promoting students into 9th grade.

There is not a promotion ceremony for 8th graders. There are several promotional activities for 8th grade students, but not a ceremony. Graduation ceremonies are limited to High School graduation in the Hart District.
